Margaret Potts was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri, and has lived in Chicago, South Dakota, Washington D.C., and the San Francisco Bay Area before making the full-circle journey home. By day she works with the formerly incarcerated, and in between she explores painting, poetry, photography, writing, and music as a self-taught songwriter & bedroom producer.
Currently, her focus for painting is on portraits of domestic life, inspired by the birth of her sister’s first child, Josephine. Far from a space to be pitied, the domestic realm has ancient roots that remind us of a private world cultivated outside the marketplace where the value of women, children and caretakers is found to be relational and priceless.
